Kasper Schmeichel a possibility for Denmark

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is targeting an extra-quick return to action after having successful surgery on a hernia injury.

Schmeichel went under the knife on Monday after being forced off during the Foxes’ 2-1 win over Swansea on Saturday, when the long-standing problem flared up again.

The Denmark international pulled up after making a clearance and was replaced by summer signing Ron-Robert Zieler. NaijaBet.com

After the game, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri said the surgery had always been planned for the start of the international break.

Schmeichel was not expected to miss any Premier League games, but he has now opened up the possibility of playing for his country this weekend after being retained in Denmark’s squad.
Denmark play Liechtenstein in a friendly on Wednesday before beginning their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign at home to Armenia.

Attached to a picture of him giving a thumbs-up in a hospital bed, Schmeichel wrote on Twitter: “Operation went well. Recovery starts now! I’ll do everything in my power to be fit for our game vs Armenia on Sunday.”

Arsenal to release Serge Gnabry permanently to Bayern Munich

Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry is set to sign for Bayern Munich on a permanent deal before being loaned to Werder Bremen, according to Sky Germany.

Sky sources reported earlier in the window that Gnabry was being offered to clubs on loan, but that manager Arsene Wenger wanted the Germany international to sign a contract extension. NaijaBet.com

But it is understood Bayern Munich have since agreed a permanent deal with Arsenal for the 21-year-old winger.

Gnabry signed a five-year deal with Arsenal in 2013 and it is understood most of the Bundesliga have been interested in signing the player.

Gnabry has been playing for Germany at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, having represented his country at every youth level from U16 to U21.

He spent a portion of last season on loan at West Brom but made just three appearances and was subsequently recalled by Wenger, who believes the youngster has a future at the Emirates.

Gnabry joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old from Stuttgart in 2011 and has made 18 appearances, including five starts in the Premier League.

He made his last appearance for the Gunners against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-16 in 2014.

Moyes pulls out to search for goalkeeper

Manager David Moyes is racing to recruit a goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closes on Wednesday after first-choice shot-stopper Vito Mannone was ruled out for at least three months with an elbow injury.

Sunderland had been reported to be interested in a move for Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart but appear set to miss out on the 29-year-old, who now seems destined for a season-long loan deal with Italian side Torino. Naijabet

Moyes fielded academy graduate Jordan Pickford in Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Southampton and despite making a string of smart saves, the 22-year-od was at fault for allowing a tame Jay Rodriguez shot to squirm under him for the equaliser.

Robert Lewandowski sets new Bayern Munich record

Robert Lewandowski has become the quickest player in Bayern Munich’s history to reach 50 Bundesliga goals.

Lewandowski, 28, scored a hat trick Bayern’s 6-0 demolition of Werder Bremen in their opening game of the league campaign to reach the half-century mark. NaijaBet.com

The Poland international now has 50 goals in only 64 league appearances for the Bavarian side, reaching the milestone quicker than Roy Makaay (67 games), Mario Gomez (71) and Gerd Muller (83)

His form has led Mats Hummels, a teammate at Borussia Dortmund and now Bayern to call him “the best striker in the world.”

Hummels said: “Robert came up with some amazing performances for us at Dortmund. He’s the best striker in the world.”

Neuer echoed those comments, adding: “He’s a real weapon and a killer in the penalty box.”

Lewandowski, who has only missed three league games in the past two campaigns, was top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 30 goals, including five in a nine-minute spell as a substitute against Wolfsburg.

However, he played down his exploits in the season-opener, saying “everyone expects me to score goals.”

“For the Confederations Cup, not all our players will be available. That’s why I see that tournament based on the future, one in which I’ll be able to bring in young players.”

Sturridge decision nothing but tactical – Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says there was nothing more than a tactical change behind him leaving Daniel Sturridge on the bench against Tottenham on Saturday.

Rashford must work hard to earn England recall

Marcus Rashford needs to play regular first-team football for Manchester United if he is to regain a place in the England squad, according to national manager Sam Allardyce.

Rashford, 18, made his first appearance of the season for United as a substitute at Hull City on Saturday and tapped in a 92nd-minute winner to give Jose Mourinho’s side a 1-0 victory.

But his lack of game-time saw him drop down to England’s Under-21 squad and Allardyce says he will not earn a senior recall if he is not in United’s first team.

“If he’s breaking into Manchester United’s team, he will be in my squad,” Allardyce said. Naijabet.com

United good form important are ahead of City’s derby – Rooney

Marcus Rashford slotted in a winner in stoppage time against Hull City last weekend to ensure that Jose Mourinho’s side were tied at the top of the Premier League on nine points after three league games.

However, Rooney, who scored in United’s 3-1 victory against Bournemouth in their opening league game, urged his team not to take their foot off the pedal against City, who also remain unbeaten this season.

Leicester coach impresses with Amartey display

Ghana defender Daniel Amartey put up a good show for Leicester as the Foxes defeated Swansea 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Amartey, who was starting only his first game of the season, paired up with Danny Drinkwater in midfield to break up play and initiate attacks.

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri, who has been tinkering with the second midfield slot alongside Drinkwater after starting Andy King and Mendy, seems now to have the perfect partner for Drinkwater after Kante’s departure. Naija and Bet

Amartey played an instrumental role in the Foxes’ opener, putting in a well-timed tackle before playing a one-two with Drinkwater, who sent a lovely weighted pass to Jamie Vardy.

It was an all-round display for Amartey who showed athleticism and combativeness in the middle of the park as the Foxes won only their first game of the season. This was only the second start for Amartey since joining Leicester in January.

Rakitic score to earns Barca victory in Bilbao

Ivan Rakitic’s first-half header maintained Barcelona’s 100 percent start to the La Liga season as the champions withstood a wave of late pressure to win 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Rakitic finished off an excellent team move after 20 minutes, but with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez uncharacteristically wayward in front of goal, Athletic nearly grabbed a point when Benat Etxebarria’s free-kick flew just wide late on.

Barca join Real Madrid and top-of-the-table Las Palmas as the only sides with two wins from their first two games. Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid are already four points off the pace after disappointing draws against newly-promoted Alaves and Leganes.

“The games here are always very similar,” Rakitic told BeIN Sports. Naijabet

“It is very intense, there is a lot of pressing. Both teams played well, but in the end we deserved the win.”
