EPL Match Preview : Manchester United vs Tottenham

Manchester United bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Hudders-field with a 2-0 win over Swansea in midweek but this will be the real test of their credentials.

Jose Mourinho’s side should take confidence from the face they haven’t conceded a goal in four home league matches this season and have kept clean sheets in their last three home matches against Tottenham.

Spurs slipped to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to West Ham on Wednesday despite taking a 2-0 lead into half time. Now it’s the turn of Mauricio Pochettino’s team to respond from an unexpected setback. NaijaBet

Harry Kane’s absence is a real game changer for Tottenham on Saturday. United now have every chance of taking points from this fixture but would be foolish to underestimate Pochettino and the other Tottenham players.

Team News

Manchester United –  Manchester United should be boosted by the return of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones this weekend.

Paul Pogba has returned to training but it will surely come too soon for him to feature, which means Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera will continue in central midfield.

Spurs will perform well without Kane – Pochettino

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday his high-flying side do not need to prove they can win without Harry Kane as they head to Manchester United without the injured forward.

Kane has already hit 13 goals for Spurs this season but was forced off late on in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring issue.

The 24-year-old will not feature against United as Tottenham look to address a recent poor record at Old Trafford and leapfrog Jose Mourinho’s side in the Premier League table.

Pochettino said he was not willing to take a risk by involving Kane, who hit a brace against Liverpool before his late injury, with other big games on the horizon. Bet on today’s matches on NaijaBet.com

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recently labelled Tottenham as “the Harry Kane team” but Pochettino pointed to last term, when Spurs coped without Kane as he nursed an ankle injury, as proof they can be successful without their talisman. Zidane eyes Copa del Rey trophy

Zinedine Zidane has won almost everything in a stellar playing and coaching career but wants to put an end to his drought in domestic cup competitions this season.

Zidane picked up Fifa’s award for coach of the year on Monday having led Real Madrid to a first La Liga and Champions League double for 59 years.

He also won the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and league titles in Italy and Spain as a player but failed to win a domestic cup.

“It’s not a personal thing,” Zidane said with a wry smile when asked if he had something against cup competitions. Naija and Bet

Arsenal owner declare full support for Wenger

Arsenal owner Stanley Kroenke believes Arsene Wenger is the best manager to lead the Premier League side and has ruled out selling his majority share of the club.

Wenger has led Arsenal to 17 trophies since taking charge in 1996 but his position was questioned after the north London side finished outside the league’s top four for the first time under the Frenchman last season.

The 68-year-old signed a new two-year deal in May, leading to questions from fans and pundits as Arsenal have not won the league since 2004 and have never won the Champions League.

“When you make decisions like that you are weighing lots of different factors but you hope that you weigh them correctly and come out with the right decision – I think we did,” Kroenke said when asked about Wenger’s contract extension. NaijaBet.com

“We have dealt with this a lot and we believe Arsene is doing a great job and is the right guy. It’s easy to change coaches and people do it all the time… It’s harder not to do something.

Allegri urges squad to step up their game against AC Milan

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has told his team that they will lose to AC Milan in Saturday’s Serie A showdown at San Siro unless they improve from what he considered an untidy display in their last match.

Both teams enjoyed 4-1 wins on Wednesday with Juve beating SPAL at home and Milan winning away to Chievo, but there were very different reactions from the two coaches.

Milan’s Vincenzo Montella was a happy and relieved man after his big-spending side ended a four-match winless run in the league, lifting some of the pressure off his shoulders after talk that his job was on the line.

“It’s a victory that gives us belief and strength,” he said. “We had already seen significant improvements in the quality of football over recent games and I am very satisfied with this performance.”

There were no such sentiments from Allegri whose side rushed to a 2-0 lead in only 23 minutes but then let SPAL back into the game. The visitors pulled one goal back and had an equaliser disallowed before two quickfire goals got Juventus off the hook. Play Bet on Weekend’s games 👉 NaijaBet

“If we play like that again, we will come away from the match on Saturday beaten and worn out,” said Allegri. Continue reading “Allegri urges squad to step up their game against AC Milan”

Carling Cup Match Preview : Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea were a little fortunate to run out 4-2 winners against Watford on Saturday and Antonio Conte will hope that result will get the defending Premier League champions back on track. Bet Now NaijaBet.com

Everton have been abysmal this season and made the decision to sack Ronald Koeman on Monday. It remains to be seen what impact that decision will have on their performance on Wednesday.

The Merseysiders have already conceded three goals against Tottenham, four versus Manchester United and five against Arsenal this season – is another rout on the cards here?

Team News

Chelsea – Antonio Conte will make changes to his usual starting XI and could even hand some of the young players a chance to impress.
Daniel Drinkwater, Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante are all sidelined for the home side on Wednesday.

Inter survive Sampdoria late fightback

Mauro Icardi scored a double as Inter Milan went top of Serie A on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Sampdoria as victims of the Holocaust were remembered following anti-semitic acts by Lazio fans.

Inter captain Icardi and Sampdoria counterpart Fabio Quagliarella handed out copies of “The Diary of Anne Frank” and Italian Jewish writer Primo Levi’s memoir “If This Is A Man” to child mascots accompanying players onto the pitch at the San Siro. Today’s SerieA fixture odds on NaijaBet

The initiative followed the controversy ignited after Lazio fans defaced the Stadio Olimpico, which they share with rivals Roma, during Sunday’s league game against Cagliari with anti-semitic slogans and stickers showing images of Frank.

On the pitch the hosts led 3-0 after 54 minutes with Slovak Milan Skriniar opening after 18 minutes against his former club with another ex-Sampdoria man Icardi adding to his tally on 32 and 54 minutes for 11 league goals this season. Continue reading “Inter survive Sampdoria late fightback”

Man City, Arsenal survive; United sink Swansea

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was the Premier League leaders’ hero as they beat Championship leaders Wolves in a penalty shootout to book their place in the quarterfinals of the English League Cup on Tuesday.

Despite chances at both ends, the Etihad Stadium clash was still scoreless after 30 minutes of extra time, sending the tie to spot-kicks.

Bravo, much criticised after some unconvincing displays last season and making just his third appearance of this campaign, saved successive penalties from Alfred N’Diaye and Conor Coady in a shootout where the kicks were taken using the ABBA formula.

Sergio Aguero, just one goal away from becoming City’s all-time leading goalscorer, sealed a 4-1 shootout success with a cheeky Panenka chipped penalty. Play Bet on Today’s Matches on NaijaBet.com

Russia increases 2018 World Cup budget

Russia has increased the budget for the 2018 World Cup by $600 million, according to a decree published on the government’s official site on Tuesday.

The decree says that the overall cost for the preparations for the tournament will rise by 5.4 percent – from 643.5 billion rubles to 678 billion rubles.

Russia’s federal budget will allocate 390 billion rubles, while 91.9 billion rubles will come from the regional budget. Naija and Bet

Chelsea players are ready to fight for Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will have the full support from his players to help the Italian avoid suffering the same fate as Jose Mourinho two years back, the Premier League champions’ goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has said.

Chelsea ended a three-match winless streak with a league win over Watford last weekend but the build-up to that game was clouded by speculation about Conte’s future with media reports suggesting the players were unhappy with his training methods.

Courtois compared the situation to that of Mourinho, who won the league in 2014-15 but was sacked the following season after a poor run of results.

“We are ready to fight for the coach,” Courtois told Standard Sport. “I remember what happened two years ago under Jose Mourinho and things started to be said, there were stories about the dressing room without knowing what was happening. Place Bet on Tonight’s Carling Matches on NaijaBet.com

Ronaldo still ‘The Best’ – Zidane

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insisted Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win Fifa’s ‘The Best’ award for 2017 despite his faltering La Liga form so far this season.

Klopp must take blame for Liverpool’s poor defeat

Jurgen Klopp unfairly shifted the blame for Liverpool’s defensive frailties onto Dejan Lovren by hauling him off in their 4-1 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said.

Harry Kane scored a brace while Son Heung-min and Dele Alli also got on the scoresheet to hand Liverpool their second league loss after the 5-0 hammering by Manchester City last month.

Defender Lovren was responsible for Tottenham’s second when he failed to cut out Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris’ long throw that allowed Kane to find Son. Liverpool manager Klopp responded by replacing Lovren with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on 31 minutes.

“What he’s done now is put all of the responsibility on to Lovren. He will now be in the headlines for this, and that’s really unfair. It should be the manager,” Schmeichel said. NaijaBet.com  Continue reading “Klopp must take blame for Liverpool’s poor defeat”

Matic hail Mourinho as the best coach he has worked with

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is the best coach Nemanja Matic has worked with, the midfielder has said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Huddersfield Town.

Matic played under the Portuguese coach at Chelsea when the London side won the league title in 2015 and the duo were reunited when the defensive midfielder joined United in July.

Heynckes happy with Mueller current form

Jupp Heynckes said he enjoyed seeing Thomas Mueller return to form as Bayern Munich got their Champions League campaign back on track with a 3-0 home win against Celtic.

Bayern captain Mueller put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes before goals by Joshua Kimmich and Mats Hummels sealed the victory on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena.

The result leaves Bayern second in Group B on six points, three behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and three clear of third-placed Celtic.

It was an important result for Bayern in the wake of their 3-0 drubbing in Paris three weeks ago, which led to Carlo Ancelotti’s dismissal.

Heynckes, 72, came out of a four-year retirement for his fourth stint as Bayern coach to replace Ancelotti. Latest Europa League Odds NaijaBet

UEL Match Preview : Everton vs Lyon

Group E is completely open at this stage after just one win between all four teams. Lyon have drawn both of their matches, while Everton are bottom of the group on one point.

Everton have only won two of their last 11 matches in all competitions and are really struggling to get out of their current funk.

Lyon will be high on confidence after beating Monaco 3-2 on Friday, but that was only their second win in nine competitive matches. Naija and Bet

Not only that, Lyon are winless in four away matches in Europe and have lost five of their previous eight matches away to English sides.

Team News

Everton –Ronald Koeman is expected to make some changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Brighton at the weekend.
Oumar Niasse is ineligible for the home side, while the Everton manager will be without at least five players because of injury.
Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka may rotate in the starting XI here, with the former coming into the team against Lyon.

Dortmund eyes quick rebound from UCL woes

With their Champions League days already numbered, Borussia Dortmund will be keen to return to domestic duties and seek to protect their lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Dortmund had taken the Bundesliga by storm with six wins from their first seven matches before suffering their first loss of the season, to RB Leipzig, last week.

Their midweek 1-1 draw at Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League felt like another defeat and the 2013 finalists have now taken just one point from their first three group matches, leaving them staring at an early exit.

Dortmund’s exciting brand of attacking football has created something of a feel-good atmosphere at the club but another slip-up in Frankfurt might see that evaporate completely. Naija and Bet

“We have to show a reaction now and instantly focus on the Bundesliga,” defender Marcel Schmelzer told reporters. “We are in a good position there and apart from the Leipzig game we have been getting results.” Continue reading “Dortmund eyes quick rebound from UCL woes”

Chelsea see draw; United, Barca, PSG Shine

Chelsea were grateful to Eden Hazard for grabbing a 3-3 draw in a Champions League thriller against Roma on Wednesday, while Manchester United, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus all won.

Hazard headed in his second goal of the night from a Pedro Rodriguez cross with quarter of an hour left at Stamford Bridge to rescue Chelsea after they had earlier blown a two-goal lead against the Italians.

With Carlo Ancelotti, former Chelsea coach and Roma player, watching from the stands, David Luiz curled the English champions into an early lead and Hazard increased their advantage.

But Aleksandar Kolarov pulled one back for Roma before the interval and Edin Dzeko equalised with a stunning volley on 64 minutes before his header put the visitors ahead to the disbelief of the home fans in west London. Play on Today’s Europa League Matches 👉 NaijaBet

Hazard’s leveller allowed Chelsea to hold onto top spot in Group C with seven points, two points clear of Roma and five better off than Atletico Madrid.

UCL Match Preview : Chelsea vs Roma

Chelsea have a 100% record in Group C and hold the advantage in the quest to finish top. Roma are their nearest rivals and a win over the Italian side would all but put their name in the next round of the competition.

Roma are in second on four points but now have two tricky fixtures against Chelsea. Assuming Atletico Madrid can beat minnows Qarabag twice, the Serie A side will do well to hold onto second place by matchday 5.

Roma have won only one of their 15 away games in England, losing nine. Chelsea slipped to a shock defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend and Antonio Conte will demand a reaction here.

Chelsea – Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante are ruled out with hamstring injuries, but Alvaro Morata is in contention to return after missing their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace with the same injury. Meanwhile, Danny Drinkwater is still sidelined for the home side.
