Leverkusen ready to punish wounded Dortmund

Bayer Leverkusen will be expected to stretch their eight-game unbeaten Bundesliga run on Saturday when they host an out-of-form Borussia Dortmund, whose coach Peter Bosz is likely to face the axe with another defeat.

Leverkusen have four wins and as many draws in their last eight league matches, a run that has enabled them to quietly climb the table up into sixth place on 20 points, one behind a free-falling Dortmund.

The team, coached by former Dortmund stalwart Heiko Herrlich, have gradually grown in confidence after a slow start to the campaign, with striker Kevin Volland netting in all three matches in November to take his league tally to eight. NaijaBet.com

Germany international Volland, who scored just six league goals last season, does not need any extra motivation to perform as he battles to earn a place in the squad for next year’s World Cup in Russia. Continue reading “Leverkusen ready to punish wounded Dortmund”

Brazil confident ahead of World Cup draw in Russia

Brazil are full of confidence ahead of Friday’s World Cup draw in Russia — and it’s not all just about Neymar.

Coming back after the mother of all humiliations in that 7-1 defeat to Germany while hosting the tournament in 2014, Brazil are once more among the top contenders.

The Selecao were the first team to qualify for next year’s showpiece, wrapping up South American qualifying as runaway leaders with 10 points more than second-place Uruguay. Place bet on today’s game on NaijaBet

They have a fiery attack, a solid defence and in Tite a coach who in a short time has managed to lift the team from its meltdown and restore the faith of desperate fans.

When he took over in June 2016, Tite inherited a team that may have a history of five world championships, but under his predecessor Dunga had slipped to sixth in the regional qualification. Brazil risked not going to Russia at all. Continue reading “Brazil confident ahead of World Cup draw in Russia”

Man City win again, Rooney’s hat trick lifts Everton

Raheem Sterling scored a stunning 96th-minute winner as Manchester City dramatically edged Southampton 2-1 on Wednesday to preserve their eight-point lead at the Premier League summit.

Pep Guardiola’s side looked set to drop points after Oriol Romeu cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opener, only for Sterling to give City a 19th straight win in all competitions and a club-record 12th successive win in the league.

It was Sterling’s third late winner in as many games and will have sickened second-place Manchester United, who had closed to within five points of the leaders by winning 4-2 at Watford on Tuesday.

Elsewhere there were wins for Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and upwardly mobile Burnley, while Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick as Everton beat West Ham United 4-0 in front of Sam Allardyce, who is poised to become their new manager. Join  the champions on NaijaBet

Everton remain the last team to have avoided defeat against City, having drawn 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium in August, although Wolverhampton Wanderers took them to penalties in the League Cup. Continue reading “Man City win again, Rooney’s hat trick lifts Everton”

PL Match Preview : Arsenal vs Huddersfield

While Arsenal stole all three points at the death against Burnley on Sunday, Huddersfield suffered heartbreak in the dying embers of their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The Gunners know they will be in for a tough game on Wednesday night but fatigue may really prevent Huddersfield from turning in another display as heroic as the one they managed against the Premier League leaders.

Arsenal have a huge match against Manchester United to follow but need to keep their focus on Huddersfield for now. Arsene Wenger’s side are unbeaten in their last 10 at the Emirates and have won nine of those. They should continue that trend in midweek.

Team News

Arsenal– Mesut Ozil missed Sunday’s clash with Burnley through illness and Arsene Wenger may opt against playing him here with a view to this weekend’s clash with Manchester United.
With Alex Iwobi also unlikely to play due to a dead leg, Jack Wilshere will fancy his chances of making a first Premier League start of the season.

Allardyce agrees become Everton new manager

Everton will “finalise terms” with Sam Allardyce to appoint the former England coach as their new manager on Wednesday, ending a long hunt since they sacked Ronald Koeman last month, the Premier League club announced.

“Sam Allardyce is at USM Finch Farm (Everton’s training ground) this afternoon to finalise terms on becoming the new manager of Everton Football Club,” Everton said in a statement. Naija and Bet

Earlier on Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported Allardyce had signed an 18-month deal and quoted owner Farhad Moshiri as saying: “We need a strong leader, he gives us that.”

Allardyce ruled himself out of the running earlier this month, saying he did not feel the Toffees were convinced he was the right man.

But after Everton’s pursuit of Watford boss Marco Silva was met with a firmrebuttal from Vicarage Road, the club returned to Allardyce. Continue reading “Allardyce agrees become Everton new manager”

PL Match Preview : Manchester City vs Southampton

Manchester City maintained their eight point lead at the top of the Premier League at the weekend, while also gaining ground on Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now won their last 11 in the league and it’s safe to assume they are champions elect.

Southampton turned in their best performance of the season when they thrashed a dismal Everton side 4-1 on Sunday but City are a completely different beast altogether, particularly at the Etihad.

It’s hard to see Mauricio Pellegrino’s side taking any points home on Wednesday night. Bet Now NaijaBet

Guardiola support Silva to shine for years

David Silva has all the attributes to cement his place as one of Manchester City’s leading lights for years to come, according to his manager, Pep Guardiola.

It is believed Silva, 31, is close to agreeing a new deal with the Premier League leaders as his current contract expires at the end of next season.

Guardiola believes the Spain midfielder has shown the physical strength and durability to be able to cope with life in the Premier League for so long.

“What I like the most with David, being a guy who is a little bit serious in his life and a little bit shy, is the fact that he has survived so well in this league,” he said.

“I like how competitive and aggressive he is in winning duels. He’s a guy who is normally more technical, and more about the pass.”I admire him a lot because he suits Spanish football perfectly but he’s survived for a long time with the speed, the weather, the tough conditions here. Bale returns to help Real progress in king’s cup

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale returned from injury in style by coming on to create two goals for Borja Mayoral in a 2-2 second-leg draw with third-tier Fuenlabrada as their second-string side took them into the King’s Cup last 16 on Tuesday.

Real won 4-2 on aggregate and Bale’s cameo performance was one of few bright spots on a nervy evening for the hosts at the Santiago Bernabeu during which the Liga and European champions were in serious danger of being forced to play extra time. Bet on today’s Matches on NaijaBet

Welsh international Bale brought badly needed quality to Zinedine Zidane’s struggling side with a substitute appearance after 63 days out with injuries and had an instant impact.

With Real behind on the night after conceding an early goal, Bale picked up the ball after coming on to a smattering of applause and curled over a cross for Mayoral to head an equaliser in the 63rd minute which effectively ended the tie. Match Preview : Leicester vs Tottenham

Leicester were held to a 1-1 draw with West Ham on Friday night and have now failed to win their last three Premier League matches. The Foxes have also lost four of their last six home meetings with Tottenham and they will be up against it on Tuesday night.

After drawing 1-1 with West Brom on Saturday, Spurs have won just one of their last four Premier League matches and have lost their last two on the road. Now out of the top-4, Mauricio Pochettino will demand a return to winning ways here.

They’ll be made to work hard, but Spurs could edge all three points at the King Power Stadium in midweek.

Claude Puel is again without Matty James, Robert Huth and Adrien Silva.

Firmino, Mane set to return against Stoke

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are likely to start in the Premier League clash with Stoke City on Wednesday.

The German chose to leave the pair out of the starting 11 in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with champions Chelsea, a decision that drew criticism on social media. Naija and Bet

Although Mane came on for the final few minutes, Firmino was an unused substitute as Liverpool conceded a late equaliser at Anfield. Both men played the entirety of last week’s draw at Sevilla in the Champions League.

“It made sense at this part of the season to use the strength of the squad. It’s not completely unlikely they (Firmino and Mane) will start (against Stoke),” Klopp said in a news conference on Tuesday.

“For the last one, maybe we thought against Chelsea maybe he needs a rest or whatever – it was that we needed fresh legs against Chelsea and that’s what we wanted to have. I thought it worked quite well. Continue reading “Firmino, Mane set to return against Stoke”

PL Match Preview : Watford vs Manchester United

Watford have won successive matches and kept clean sheets in that run. They have already taken points off Arsenal and Liverpool this season, while they also came close to beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Given Manchester United’s recent struggles at Vicarage Road, Marco Silva’s side should be confident of another upset.

Manchester United limped to a 1-0 win over newly promoted Brighton on Saturday and now face a potential banana-skin trip to Watford ahead of a huge clash with Arsenal a few days later.

Jose Mourinho’s side lost 3-1 in this corresponding fixture last season and will need to perform much better than they did on Saturday to avoid another defeat.

Ranieri ready for Monaco reunion in Ligue1 midweek fixture

Claudio Ranieri admits he has “fantastic memories” of coaching Monaco as his Nantes side prepare to host the faltering reigning champions in a midweek round of games in Ligue 1.

The Italian was appointed by Monaco in 2012 and lasted two seasons in the principalty, winning Ligue 2 and leading them to promotion in his first campaign before taking them to second place on their return to Ligue 1.

The disappointment of his departure was soon forgotten as he led Leicester City to their historic Premier League title triumph in 2016 before returning to the French game with Nantes in the summer.

“I have fantastic memories. We were Ligue 2 champions then second in Ligue 1. I often went to see them in the Champions League last year and their project has not changed,” said the Italian, who still has a home in the principality. Latest ligue1 odds on site NaijaBet.com

Arsenal are still in the title challenge race – Cech

Petr Cech believes Arsenal could be in contention for the Premier League title come the end of the season despite trailing leaders Manchester City by 12 points going into Wednesday’s match with Huddersfield.

A win would probably still leave the Gunners well adrift of record-breaking City, with Pep Guardialo’s unbeaten side hosting Southampton, but Cech — a four-time Premier League champion with Chelsea — is looking long-term.

“You have to play game by game, not think too much about what’s going on around you because if you win your game then you give yourself a chance,” he said. Place Bet on Today’s EPL matches on NaijaBet

Lukaku escaped ban for alleged kick on Brighton’s Gaetan Bong

There will be no action taken against Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku for allegedly kicking out at Brighton defender Gaetan Bong.

Burnley win is more important than Spurs win – Koscielny

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has said picking up three points at Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday was more important than last week’s victory over derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal, who beat Spurs 2-0 at the Emirates, ground out a 1-0 win at Turf Moor that pushed them up to fourth and a point behind third-placed Chelsea. Spurs and Liverpool, Arsenal’s main rivals for a top-four spot, both dropped points.

“I think it was very important, more than the Tottenham game,” Koscielny told British media. “It was crucial to win here. NaijaBet

Milan sack coach, appoint Gattuso on an interim basis

Fallen Italian giants AC Milan have sacked coach Vincenzo Montella and named combative former player Gennaro Gattuso as their new boss, the Chinese-owned club said Monday.

Gattuso, 39, made more than 450 appearances for AC Milan between 1999 and 2012, winning a reputation as a rugged defensive midfielder.

He spent a season at Glasgow Rangers before that.

He has been working within the AC Milan structure as youth team coach.

Lukaku might face ban and miss Manchester derby

Romelu Lukaku is facing a three-match ban that would rule him out of the Manchester derby after he was caught on camera kicking Brighton defender Gaetan Bong in the groin.

Lukaku lashed out at Bong with his right boot, then connected with the Cameroon international with his left as they tangled at a corner moments before Manchester United’s goal at Old Trafford. NaijaBet

The 66th-minute incident went unnoticed as Ashley Young’s shot took a big deflection off Lewis Dunk and looped into the net, but it was captured on video and is set to land Lukaku in trouble on today Monday.

The FA are aware of the incident and will study referee Neil Swarbrick’s report before viewing more footage.

United’s £75million striker faces a charge of violent conduct that carries an automatic three-match ban, potentially keeping him out of Tuesday’s game at Watford, Saturday’s trip to Arsenal and the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on December 10.

Messi’s goal disallowed as Valencia hold Barcelona

Jordi Alba’s late equaliser maintained Barcelona’s four-point lead over Valencia at the top of La Liga in a 1-1 draw at Mestalla on Sunday overshadowed by the league’s lack of goal line technology.

Lionel Messi’s first-half effort clearly crossed the line, but wasn’t allowed  to stand as, unlike other major European leagues, La Liga has refused to introduce the technology on cost grounds.

Rodrigo’s opener on the hour mark rubbed salt into Barca’s wounds, but the visitors responded when Messi picked out Alba eight minutes from time to ensure both sides remain unbeaten in La Liga. Check out today’s games on NaijaBet.com

However, just a second slip up from Barca this season does allow Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to close to within eight points of the leaders.

The hosts paid homage to late president Jaume Orti who passed away on Friday before kick-off, whilst the club’s current president Peter Lim made a rare appearance at the Mestalla in a clear sign of Valencia’s revival after fans had persistently called for the Singaporean to sell up and leave last season.Gerard Pique’s absence at the heart of the Barca defence through suspension meant a first La Liga start for Thomas Vermaelen in nearly two years.

Burnley are ready to unsettle Arsenal

Burnley have established a reputation for being hard to beat at home and Arsenal will not be looking forward to their trip to Turf Moor on Saturday, defender Matt Lowton has said.

Burnley, who lost six home league games last season, have conceded just two goals at home this campaign and recorded three wins, two draws and a defeat in six home matches.

Level on points with sixth-placed Arsenal, Burnley would go into the game confident of getting a result, said Lowton.

“The thing is that they won’t want to come here. We’re trying to bring that fear factor back here and we’ve won the last two games with clean sheets,” Lowton was quoted as saying by the Burnley Express. Now is the best time to forecast for weekends game, latest odds on NaijaBet.com

Griezmann on target as Atletico sink Roma

Antoine Griezmann emerged from a personal slump in spectacular fashion when he helped Atletico Madrid to beat Roma 2-0 in Champions League group C on Wednesday and retain their slim chance of qualifying for the last 16.

When the French forward was jeered off by some Atletico fans during the derby clash with Real Madrid which finished goalless on Saturday, coach Diego Simeone defended him, saying he would stick with his ‘family’ to the death.

Griezmann repaid the coach, and the fans who chanted his name at the Wanda Metropolitano against Roma, with a stunning scissor-kick strike which broke both the deadlock and his goal drought. Place Bet on Live Matches 24/7 on NaijaBet.com

Chelsea showing excellent character – Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is pleased with the way his side have reacted to setbacks this season and says the players have shown great character to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.
