Europa League Match Preview: Arsenal vs Sporting CP

Arsenal has a 100 per cent record in Group E after three matches and have already won their hardest fixture on paper: away to Sporting. The Gunners will guarantee a place in the next round with a win, while a draw would be enough if Vorskla loses at home to Qarabag.

Sporting are still in a good position in the group despite losing at home to Arsenal. They are three points clear of Vorskla in second and are expected to progress even if they lose on Thursday.

Sporting has won just two of 11 matches in England (D2, L7) and are winless in their last six matches there (D1, L5). Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 14 competitive matches (W12, D2) and should maintain that run on Thursday.

Team News

Arsenal- Matteo Guendouzi missed Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday through suspension and will start Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Sporting.

Sporting CP- Rodrigo Battaglia only lasted 30 minutes of Sporting’s 2-1 win over Santa Clara on Sunday and will not play here. Abdoulaye Diaby needed to come off at half-time in the victory but is part of the travelling squad to London.

Sporting has recovered Bas Dost since losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal at the end of last month and the Dutch striker should lead the line for the away side on Thursday.

Jeremy Mathieu was only fit enough to make the bench against Arsenal last time out in the Europa League but should replace Andre Pinto in the back four this time around.

Stefan Ristovski, Stefano Sturaro, Emiliano Viviano and Raphinha are still sidelined for Sporting.
