Real cruise as Ramos nets for 16th straight season

Real Madrid registered their biggest win since Zinedine Zidane’s return as coach on Wednesday as they demolished struggling Leganes 5-0 to move up to second in La Liga.

Karim Benzema was the star of the show, the Frenchman rounding off a superb attacking display with a goal from the penalty spot after Rodrygo, Toni Kroos and another spot-kick from Sergio Ramos had already put Leganes out of sight. Luka Jovic added a fifth in injury-time.

“We have not scored five goals for a long time,” said Zidane. “We needed a victory like that. When you start scoring goals, it makes everything easier.”

Gareth Bale was absent as he continues to recover from a calf injury but Madrid hardly missed the Welshman, whose future has again been up for discussion this week after he was pictured returning to London. Various Odds are available on site for today’s games

Zidane said he has spoken to Bale and saw him in the changing room at the Santiago Bernabeu. He was also asked if Bale had permission to leave the game five minutes before fulltime. “I think so,” Zidane said. “If he leaves five minutes before the game finishes, he can get home more easily.”

The key is to belief in young players, says Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said it was important to show belief in his young players after their dispiriting 4-0 defeat by Manchester United in their Premier League opener.

Lampard, Chelsea’s record goalscorer, took over as manager in July with the club under a Fifa transfer ban that prevented them from signing players in the close season.

Lampard started forward Tammy Abraham, 22, and midfielder Mason Mount, 20, at Old Trafford on August 11 and drew criticism from some quarters, including from former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, over his tactics and team selection.

“I joke a bit but there’s a lot of noise, win, lose or draw, whatever 11 I pick,” Lampard told reporters ahead of Chelsea’s return to Old Trafford in the League Cup fourth-round later on Wednesday. Make cool cash with Virtual and Live Games on NaijaBet

“I set out this season to see what these young boys could do… For me to have thrown that away after one game at Manchester United and a few opinions, that would have made me a bit of a flip-flopper.”

Lukaku shines as Inter hang on for win at Brescia

A stunning strike by Romelu Lukaku gave Inter Milan a 2-1 win at Brescia on Tuesday although they had to cling on for three points in the face of heavy pressure from the promoted side.

The win took Inter back to the top of Serie A, at least for 24 hours until Juventus, who are two points behind, host Genoa on Wednesday. Inter also maintained a 100 per cent away record with five wins out of five.

Inter went ahead midway through the first half with a fortuitous goal from Lautaro Martinez, whose shot deflected off defender Andrea Cistana, before Lukaku score with a stinging drive just past the hour mark.

Milan Skriniar’s own goal in the 76th minute brought a feisty Brescia right back into the game and ensured a nervy finale for the visitors.

“We got the three points and I’m not interested in anything else,” said Inter coach Antonio Conte, who complained about a crowded fixture list. “Sometimes you just have to win while suffering.” Various SerieA Boosted Odds are available on NaijaBet for today’s games

“This terrible sequence of matches continues,” he added. “We will play seven times in 20 days, and I’ve never seen that with any other team. It’s very strange.”

Zidane trashed speculation over Bale’s future at Real

Zinedine Zidane insists Gareth Bale was given permission by Real Madrid to travel to London on Monday, and claims the Welshman never talks about leaving the club.

Bale has not played since injuring his calf during a game for Wales on October 13 and his trip to England has prompted speculation he will seek an exit from Madrid in January.

But Zidane insists Bale had permission to be absent on Monday and Tuesday morning and that he is not aware the 30-year-old wants to be sold.

“It was a personal issue and he had permission yesterday to go,” Zidane said in a press conference on Tuesday.

“It was a personal issue and he went, that’s it, no story. He also went because he’s not available to play. Place bet on Live Matches 24/7 on NaijaBet

Klopp delighted as Liverpool show resilience against Arsenal

For all their attacking flair, Liverpool showed again on Sunday they have the ability to dig deep and grind out vital victories when things do not go to plan as they recovered from an early setback to beat Tottenham Hotspur.

With their Premier League lead having been cut to three points on Saturday by Manchester City, there were a few worried looks on the Kop when Tottenham’s Harry Kane opened the scoring inside a minute at Anfield.

But Liverpool never panicked, trusted the system and gradually turned the screw.

Second-half goals by captain Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot ensured Liverpool won 2-1, continuing their stunning start and fuelling belief that this could finally be the season they end their long wait for a first English title since 1990.

Manager Jurgen Klopp praised his side’s response to going behind so early against a team that, while not winning, have caused problems at Anfield in recent seasons. Carling Cup Boosted Odds are available on NaijaBet

“I told the boys at halftime, the only problem in this game so far is the result – apart from that, it’s good,” Klopp said.

United wary of Norwich threat this weekend – Solskjaer

Norwich City are a courageous side who play a brand of football that can trouble stronger opponents and Manchester United could have a tough time getting a result at Carrow Road on Sunday, the Old Trafford club’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said.

Promoted Norwich City sit 19th in the standings but Daniel Farke’s side have already earned notable scalps on their top flight return, including a win over defending champions Manchester City at home last month.

“I hope we are going to stop them because it’s always going to be difficult down at Carrow Road,” Solskjaer, whose side claimed their first away win of the season at Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday, told reporters.

“When I watched their first (Premier League) game against Liverpool I saw a team with lots of courage. They were brave, they played their own way and kept going.

Struggling Tottenham face daunting trip to EPL leader Liverpool

Premier League leaders Liverpool meet Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday for the first time since a sultry June night in Madrid ended with Jurgen Klopp’s side crowned champions of Europe.

Since then the trajectories of the two clubs have been diametrically opposed. Liverpool have set a relentless pace at the top of the Premier League and Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham have stalled.

After nine games Liverpool lead the table by six points from Manchester City while Tottenham are already 13 points adrift in seventh spot after only three league wins all season – their worst start since Pochettino’s debut season in 2014-15.

City can halve the gap to Liverpool when they host Aston Villa on Saturday, while the weekend’s programme gets underway on Friday with third-placed Leicester City at Southampton.

Fourth-placed Chelsea are at Burnley in Saturday’s late kickoff while Manchester United, in 14th place, will hope a trip to struggling Norwich City on Sunday can spark a climb up the table after failing to win any of their last four league games. Place bet on Live Events 24/7 on NaijaBet

All sorts of theories have been presented as to why Tottenham have fallen away, including a Champions League hangover, a frustrating transfer window and even Pochettino becoming stale after working wonders to keep the north London club in the top four, four seasons in a row.

Lampard hails Pulisic impact as Chelsea sink Ajax

Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic was left out of the squad entirely when they beat Lille in the Champions League earlier this month, but the 21-year-old’s career sprang to life against Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday.

The forward joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around 64 million euros ($71 million) in the close season to become the most expensive American player in history but has struggled for minutes, making only three Premier League starts.

Pulisic gave manager Frank Lampard a timely reminder of his talent by setting up fellow substitute Michy Batshuayi to score the winner against last year’s semifinalists Ajax at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Boosted Odds are available on NaijaBet for tonight’s Europa League games

“Sometimes the toughest part of management is leaving out players that really want to play week-in, week-out. You rely on them being positive and coming on to make an impact,” Lampard said.

“You have to give Christian huge credit because he looked so lively and the assist is just as important as the finish.”

Guardiola backs Sterling to keep improving to becomes great

Pep Guardiola says hat-trick hero Raheem Sterling can still improve further and it will be up to the Manchester City forward as to whether he fulfils his potential and becomes a great of the game.

Sterling, 24, had a hand in all five goals, including an 11-minute hat-trick, as City romped to a 5-1 Champions League victory over Italian side Atalanta on Tuesday, to take his tally to 12 goals in 13 appearances this season.

His link-up play with Sergio Aguero and Phil Foden was at times breathtaking, leading to former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand to suggest on BT Sport after the game he was now among the top five players in the world.

“How much better he can become depends on him,” Guardiola told reporters. “I think he has that desire to get better. I say all credit is for him. He’s a guy whose physicality is incredible. Place bet on Live Events 24/7 on NaijaBet

UCL Match Preview: Galatasaray vs Real Madrid

Galatasaray have one point from two Champions League group games. They drew their first match 0-0 with Club Bruges before losing 1-0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid are remarkably bottom of Group A with just one point from two games. They followed up their 3-0 defeat to PSG with a 2-2 draw with Club Bruges.

Madrid slipped to a shock 1-0 defeat to Mallorca at the weekend and anything other than three points on Tuesday will leave Zinedine Zidane’s side in a perilous position in the group.

The last time Galatasaray hosted Madrid in a Champions League match they lost 6-1. That was in 2013 and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick.

Do not expect a repeat scoreline on Tuesday. In fact, Galatasaray have a really good chance to inflict further misery on Madrid.

Tottenham faced with fresh rescue mission in Champions League

Tottenham’s miserable start to the season shows little sign of improving quickly, but prior to Red Star Belgrade’s visit on Tuesday, Spurs can take some solace from the fact they are in a better position in the Champions League than they were 12 months ago.

Defeats to Inter Milan and Barcelona saw them travel to PSV Eindhoven for what manager Mauricio Pochettino described as a “must-win”. After a 2-2 draw in the Netherlands, Pochettino admitted his side’s Champions League campaign was “nearly over.”

Yet, eight months later, the Argentine had led Tottenham to their first ever Champions League final.

The hangover from defeat to Liverpool in that final in Madrid has been long and sobering. Spurs have won just three of their opening 12 games in all competitions this season. Various Champions League Odds are available on NaijaBet

Chances of a first trophy under Pochettino in the League Cup have already gone after an embarrassing exit on penalties to fourth-tier Colchester and they are already five points off the pace just for a place in the Premier League’s top four.

Pogba, De Gea another worry for Solskjaer ahead Liverpool clash

Manchester United will prepare for Sunday’s Premier League clash against leaders Liverpool without the injured Paul Pogba and David De Gea, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper De Gea was forced to leave the field during Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Sweden on Tuesday.

“David needs a scan,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “I think he’ll be out. It certainly looked like it anyway judging on last night so it’s just one of those things.”

France midfielder Pogba has missed five of United’s last seven matches with an ankle injury, and after spending part of the international break recuperating in Dubai, Solskjaer said the 26-year-old is still not ready for first-team action.

“Paul had an injury, he came back, he worked really hard. He came back and played a couple of games, maybe played through the pain barrier,” Solskjaer added. Place bet on Live Events 24/7 on NaijaBet

Modric and Bale sit out of training cause concerns for Madrid ahead of El-Clasico

Real Madrid face an anxious wait to see if Luka Modric and Gareth Bale will be fit for next week’s Clasico against Barcelona after both players missed training on Tuesday.

Modric and Bale each did gym work indoors as they attempted to recover from injuries sustained playing in the Euro 2020 qualifier between Croatia and Wales on Sunday.

It leaves Madrid uncertain over the fitness of two key players, with the crunch La Liga game against Barca at Camp Nou fast-approaching on October 26.

Wales coach Ryan Giggs said Bale was struggling with pain in his calf towards the end of their draw with Croatia in Cardiff but suggested the problem was cramp.

Liverpool aim at Premier League title as ‘barometer of success’ – Peter Moore

Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore says a long-overdue Premier League title would sit alongside their Champions League triumph as a “barometer of success” for the club.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won a sixth European Cup in June, less than a month after they were pipped by Manchester City to the league title by a single point.

The league resumes on Saturday with Liverpool eight points clear of City and favourites to win their first top-flight title for 30 years.

“I think that is what our fans want,” Moore told the Press Association. “We were so close last year, 97 points, and in any other year we would have won it.

“But the club goes on and I think that (a league title), for many of our fans, would sit alongside our Champions League triumph as the barometer of success.”

City have been the domestic benchmark for their rivals, with four Premier League titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups since 2011, but Moore said Liverpool were following their own path.

Euro2020 Match Preview: Bulgaria vs England

Having missed the chance to do so on Friday, England can qualify with a victory if Kosovo were to lose to Montenegro, and Southgate will be looking for a big response from such an abject performance.

With places in the manager’s starting XI still very much up for grabs ahead of next summer, those that come into the side have a real chance to stake a claim for a regular berth.

Bulgaria sit bottom of Group A without a win to their name and while their esteemed visitors were poor last time out, another upset is far from likely.
