Germany club to restart in May due to Corona delay

German Bundesliga clubs on Tuesday approved measures to suspend the season for a further four weeks due to the coronavirus crisis, amid reports that games would resume from the first weekend in May.

German Football League (DFL) directors announced plans last week to extend the current two-week suspension until 30 April, a decision approved by Germany’s 36 professional clubs in a video conference on Tuesday.

“The board felt a lot of support (from the clubs),” said DFL president Christian Seifert, adding that league was “sticking together”.

Games had been halted since mid-March, but hopes are growing that they might resume a month from now.

Earlier Tuesday, Kicker weekly had reported that the DFL now planned to resume the season from the first weekend of May, with games to be played behind closed doors. Place bet on Live Event and Virtual Games 24/7 on

Seifert did not confirm the reports, but said it was “still the case that we want to end the season by 30 June”.

Pep keeping watching his weight without football

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola joked he will come back “fatter” from a long layoff from football as he urged supporters to follow the advice of scientists and medical professionals on Monday.

Guardiola, who donated one million euros ($1.08 million) to help buy medical supplies for the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in his native Spain last week, posted a video message as part of the English champions’ “Cityzens At Home” campaign to keep fans entertained.

Football in England has been suspended until at least April 30 as part of tight restrictions on personal freedoms to try and halt the spread of COVID-19.

Liverpool deserve to be crown Premier League champions – Gundogan

Liverpool should be awarded the Premier League title if the season cannot be completed due to the coronavirus pandemic, says Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were a tantalising two wins away from their first league crown since 1990 when the season was suspended earlier this month.

The shutdown is currently due to last until April 30. Premier League chiefs are due to meet on Friday, with no indications of when football will resume.

Gundogan, whose side trail Liverpool by 25 points, told German broadcaster ZDF that if the season could not be finished, Klopp’s side deserved the title.

“It would be OK for me,” he said. “As a sportsman you have to be fair.” Place bet on Live Event 24/7 on NaijaBet

The 29-year-old German international, who has won the Premier League title with City for the past two seasons, said it was unlikely that he and his teammates could resume training at the end of April.

I can’t guarantee Spurs stay without progress – Kane

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane said on Sunday that he could leave the Premier League club if the team does not progress in the right direction as he wants to win trophies “sooner rather than later”.

Kane has scored 181 goals for Spurs in all competitions – averaging 30 goals a season since his breakthrough into the starting line-up in 2014 – but he is yet to win a trophy with the London club.

The England striker signed a six-year contract extension in 2018 that would keep him at Spurs until 2024 but admitted in an Instagram Q&A with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp that he could not guarantee he would stay if Spurs were not successful.

“I’ll always love Spurs, but it’s one of them things. I’ve always said if I don’t feel like we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I’m not someone to stay there just for the sake of it,” Kane said.

“I’m an ambitious player, I want to improve and become better. I want to become a top, top player, so it all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. Click on 12hrs to place bet on today games on

The commission said the discoveries followed an attempt to end tax fraud in the lottery business, adding that only 21 operators and 18 firms were licensed by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).

Liverpool manager Klopp says his boys spirits are high despite virus lockdown

Jurgen Klopp says the mood at Liverpool is upbeat despite the coronavirus lockdown, even admitting he has tried to copy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s dance moves to keep himself occupied.

The Premier League leaders were on the verge of their first top-flight title for 30 years when English football was suspended earlier this month. The virus shutdown has since been extended until at least 30 April but Liverpool do not know when, or if, they will get a chance to complete the job.

Klopp said his players’ spirits remained high despite the frustrations of having no football

Klopp said his players’ spirits remained high despite the frustrations of having no football to play and praised the efforts of his backroom staff who are looking after the players’ fitness.

“We spoke a couple of times, we have a really intense, big, big group chat – the whole of Melwood (training ground) are in that,” he said, speaking to the club’s website by videolink from his home. “The boys are really lively in that, the boys are just interested in what everybody is doing, comments on what everybody is doing – if Ox is on Instagram or whatever.”

Midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain and his girlfriend, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, performed a dance routine, which she posted on social media.

Teammate James Milner played up to his “boring James Milner” tag by posting a video of himself cutting his grass with a ruler and scissors. “I didn’t cut the grass but I tried the dance of Ox,” said Klopp.

“Not as bad as you probably think. It’s very important in these times that we all show we take this situation seriously, but we are human beings.” “If the boys do anything on Instagram, as long as it’s in a legal frame I’m overly happy about it – it just shows they are still cheeky and all that stuff,” he added.

Klopp praised the efforts of Liverpool and other clubs in helping support more vulnerable members of the community during the current crisis. And he urged people to abide by the lockdown.

“The only way to get football back as soon as possible, if that’s what the people want, the more disciplined we are now the earlier we will get, piece by piece by piece, our life back,” Klopp said. “That’s how it is.” “At one point we will play football again as well, 100 percent,” he added. “I couldn’t wish more for it because of a few really good reasons, how you can imagine. I can’t wait actually, but even I have to be disciplined and I try to be as much as I can.”

Italian (FIGC) chief ready to finish League in August

Italian football federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina said on Wednesday he was determined that the Serie A season would be concluded even going into August.

All sport in Italy has been suspended until April 3 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which has forced the postponement of Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.

“We will do everything to complete the championships, if necessary we will ask for the support of Uefa and Fifa to go beyond June 30 and play also in July or August,” Gravina told Radio Marte.

“It’s premature to think of a date, but we must think positively, also for the health of Italians and hope that this situation will end as soon as possible.”

The FIGC chief had last week expressed his hope that the championship could resume on the weekend of May 2.  Place virtual games 24/7 on NaijaBet

While the IOC has jurisdiction over the date of the Olympic Games, the unidentified official said the Tokyo Games “will be postponed,” according to the Sankei.

Euro 2020 fate to be decided due Coronavirus threat

Uefa is expected to postpone Euro 2020 by up to a year on Tuesday, as European football’s governing body considers its response to the fallout of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League in doubt as Arteta, Hudson-Odoi get coronavirus after this Weekend fixtures

The Premier League was thrown into chaos on Thursday as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi both contracted the new coronavirus, leaving at least one game postponed and other fixtures in doubt.

Arsenal’s match at Brighton was put on hold after Arteta’s diagnosis sent the London club into lockdown, while Chelsea’s players and coaching staff were also ordered into isolation.

Chelsea said they would discuss their upcoming games, starting with Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa, with Premier League officials.

The league will hold emergency talks on Friday “regarding future fixtures” in light of the pandemic, which has shut down football and other sports around the world.

Hudson-Odoi, 19, is the first Premier League player confirmed to have the virus. He displayed cold symptoms on Monday morning and has stayed away from the club since then.

Liverpool must focus on finishing season strong after UCL exit – Henderson

Captain Jordan Henderson said Liverpool will use the pain of their Champions League elimination by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday to finish the season strongly.

Holders Liverpool crashed out in the last 16 after Atletico scored three goals in extra time for a shock 3-2 victory at Anfield that sent them through 4-2 on aggregate.

Henderson backed Liverpool to respond in Monday’s Merseyside derby against Everton in the Premier League and take a big step towards winning their first English league title in 30 years.

Liverpool need just two more wins to seal the title.

“Obviously we’re really disappointed… we put everything into the game,” Henderson.

Champions League Match Preview: Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid

Liverpool are 1-0 down from the first leg and failed to score an away goal in Spain. However, if there is one ground you’d want to return to and hope to overturn a first leg deficit then it is Anfield.

Liverpool have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions and had to come from behind to beat Bournemouth on Saturday. They aren’t playing at their best but Klopp will hope the potential return of Jordan Henderson, coupled with the Anfield crowd, will galvanise his side.

Atletico are perhaps the side best equipped to nulify Liverpool, as they showed in the first leg, but they are without a win in their last six away from home in all competitions (L4, D2).

As Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield in all competitions this season, coupled with only two wins in Atletico’s last 15 on the road, the best hope the Spanish side have is to sneak an away goal and cling on at the back.

Champions League Match Preview: RB Leipzig vs Tottenham

RB Leipzig hold a first leg advantage having secured a 1-0 win in London last month, but have Peter Gulacsi to thank for ensuring a clean sheet at Tottenham, with the goalkeeper putting in a man of the match display.

The Bundesliga side may have stuttered of late, drawing their last two, yet are unbeaten in six and haven’t lost a competitive game at home since a 2-0 loss at the hands of Lyon in October.

Spurs’ season in starting to unravel and a 1-1 draw at Burnley extended their winless run to five matches. The stalemate may have ended a four-match losing run, however they have won only one of their last eight away games, that coming in a last-gasp 3-2 win at Aston Villa last month.

Given RB Leipzig’s superior home record and Spurs’ sub-par form of late, the hosts should make light work of the north London outfit here.

Bergwijn out for the season but Mourinho confident

Tottenham Hotspur will be without winger Steven Bergwijn for the rest of the season and fullback Ben Davies will also miss their Champions League last-16 return leg at RB Leipzig on Tuesday but Jose Mourinho is confident his team can turn the tie around.

The Premier League club, who lost 1-0 in the first leg in London last month, are already without injured England captain Harry Kane and their South Korea striker Son Heung-min, while Bergwijn was injured in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Burnley.

Checks on Monday showed the Dutch international suffered a serious sprain to his left ankle and is unlikely to play for the rest of the season, coach Mourinho told a news conference.

“Ben, out one week, two weeks,” Mourinho said on Monday. “Steven, I don’t expect him to play this season.”

Spurs need to wake up & ‘write new stories’,- Lloris

Hugo Lloris has challenged Tottenham to “write new stories” in the Champions League, even though they will take the positives from last season’s sensational comeback against Ajax in the semifinal.

Spurs looked to be sunk when trailing 3-0 on aggregate in the second leg of the tie last May but Lucas Moura’s second-half hat-trick in Amsterdam saw them knock out the Dutch giants in dramatic circumstances.

Spurs, then under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino, lost 2-0 in the final to Liverpool in Madrid.

Tottenham need another memorable away day if they are to progress further than the last-16 in this campaign, with Timo Werner’s penalty handing Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig a 1-0 win in north London last month.

“We have to take everything positive but I think it belongs to the past, we need to write new stories,” said goalkeeper and captain Lloris, referring to the Ajax match. Start playing Live bet on NaijaBet 24/7

Liverpool aim to regain defence momentum

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for his defence to regain top form after a third loss in four games across all competitions but Saturday’s Premier League opponents Bournemouth could be more concerned about their own backline.

Leaders Liverpool were expected to respond strongly to last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Watford – their first of the league campaign – but instead were beaten 2-0 at Chelsea in the FA Cup on Tuesday.

Those results followed last month’s 1-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 and a tense 3-2 win at home against West Ham United in the league.

“Usually you don’t get a lot of chances against us, but now we have to admit that in the last three games, maybe four, we have conceded too many goals,” Klopp said.

FA Cup Match Preview: Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea have won only two of their last eight matches in all competitions after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. They have lost two of their last three at Stamford Bridge and have failed to score five times in their last 11 on home soil.

Chelsea have scored exactly once in each of their last seven home games against Liverpool. Klopp’s side are favourites but it will be interesting to see how they react to Saturday’s defeat, having recently lost to Atletico Madrid without scoring too.

Leicester will not risk Vardy against Birmingham – Rodgers

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is stepping up his recovery from a calf injury but Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round meeting with Birmingham City will come too early for him, manager Brendan Rodgers said.
