Emery : A new dawn. A new era. A new chapter for Arsenal

Arsenal have appointed former Paris St Germain coach Unai Emery as their new manager, the Spaniard succeeding the long-serving Arsene Wenger, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

Emery, who joined PSG in June 2016, left the French club at the end of this season, having led them to a domestic treble. The 46-year-old had previously guided Spanish side Sevilla to three Europa League titles.

“Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly,” Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said in a statement. United draw West Ham to secure second place

Manchester United secured the point they needed to finish second in the Premier League with a dull 0-0 draw at West Ham United on Thursday.

There were few chances in a tepid first half, though Alexis Sanchez forced a good save from West Ham keeper Adrian and Marko Arnautovic looked the most likely West Ham player to make a breakthrough.

Paul Pogba curled a couple of shots narrowly wide for Manchester United, and the France midfielder was booked in the dying stages for kicking out at West Ham’s Mark Noble, who was also shown a yellow card as tempers frayed.

Manchester United, 19 points behind champions Manchester City, moved four points clear of third-placed Tottenham Hotspur with one league game left, and will play Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 19. West Ham are 15th in the table.

Premier League Match Preview: Tottenham vs Watford

Tottenham have endured a disappointing week that saw them lose ground in the race to secure a Champions League spot next season and miss out on the chance of silverware.

Three successive defeats at Wembley is unlikely to have helped the side and they need to return to winning ways on Monday night to help end the campaign on a high.

They couldn’t be facing more welcoming opponents in Watford, who haven’t won away from home since the end of November. The Hornets have lost 10 of their last 11 away matches and have lost their last four away trips to Tottenham, scoring one and conceding 12. Place bet on LIVE matches online 24/7 on NaijaBet

Leicester have nothing left to play for this season after falling nine points behind seventh place Burnley. They must now try and cement a top half finish with five games left to play.

Southampton blew a 2-0 lead at home to Chelsea on Saturday and ended up losing 3-2. It’s their second consecutive 3-2 defeat where they have been ahead at some stage of the match.

Match Preview : Brighton vs Tottenham

Brighton fell to a 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday, yet remain seven points above the relegation zone after Southampton’s 3-2 loss to Chelsea. The Seagulls, though, have failed to win their last four league matches, losing three.

Tottenham too lost over the weekend, succumbing to defeat to champions Manchester City at Wembley. They have, however, lost only two league games since December, both against City, and secured a 2-0 win over Brighton in the reverse fixture.

Brighton appear to be limping over the finish line, while Spurs are still battling to secure a top-4 finish. The visitors should return to winning ways here, but it won’t be easy for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

PL Match Preview: Manchester United vs Liverpool

The winner of this match could well decide who finishes in second in the Premier League this season. Manchester United are two points clear at the moment but have been forced to come from behind in their last two matches to stay there.

Liverpool are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions and have kept five clean sheets in that period. The momentum is with Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of Saturday’s early kick off against arch-rivals United. Klopp will want to improve his own record against United, having only won one of his previous six meetings against the Red Devils.

United are expected to set up to contain Liverpool’s rampant attack on Saturday in true Mourinho fashion and that may not make for the match many are hoping for. Mourinho has failed to win his last five matches against the Reds and a point would be enough to stay in second.

The Tottenham squad has been hit by illness of late and Mauricio Poche-  ttino is hoping to recover some key men in time for Wednesday’s welcome of Manchester United. The north London side have drawn their last two competitive matches, but in turn have lost only one of their last 13.

Manchester United have won their last five competitive outings and are unbeaten in eight. Jose Mourinho’s side seem to be back to their best after a festive blip, though haven’t won a league match at Tottenham since 2012.

The home side has won the last six meetings between these two sides, with the away team scoring just the once in that run. PL Match Preview: Manchester United vs Stoke

Manchester United’s injury woes have eased since the turn of the year and that should enable Jose Mourinho’s side to rediscover the form they showed at the start of the season.

The Reds have won back-to-back matches after a run of four games without a win and have not conceded in their last 323 minutes of action in all competitions.

Stoke were dumped out of the FA Cup third round by League Two outfit Coventry last weekend and that prompted Mark Hughes’ dismissal. The Potters have lost nine of their last 11 competitive matches and could be three points adrift of safety by the time this Monday night fixture rolls around.

Stoke have only lost five of 18 Premier League matches they have played on a Monday night, but a trip to Old Trafford may be beyond their reach, especially when you consider their current circumstances. They’ve drawn their last three against the Red Devils, but haven’t win away to United since April 1976.

Chelsea  1.29   vs   Leicester  11.30

A 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday night means Chelsea have won only two of their last six competitive matches. However, on home turf, the Blues have been in fine form, failing to win only three of their last 12 in all competitions at Stamford Bridge.

Leicester have lost back-to-back away league matches and have lost six of their last seven competitive meetings with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

They recently ended a four-match winless run in the Premier League with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Huddersfield, though, and will look to use that as a platform to spring an upset here.

Leicester may trouble this Blues backline, but Chelsea have the means to wrap up all three points. Latest Odds on NaijaBet

Carling Cup Match Preview : Chelsea vs Arsenal

Chelsea will look to take advantage of home advantage in the first leg and seize the initiative in this League Cup semi final. The Blues haven’t beaten Arsenal in their last four encounters but haven’t lost at home to the Gunners since October 2011.

Arsene Wenger has only lost more games against Manchester United (26) than he has versus Chelsea (19) in his career and Arsenal are the underdogs in this semi final tie.

Arsenal have struggled for consistency on their travels this season, winning just three of 12 domestic away matches thus far. They were also eliminated from the FA Cup third round by Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Bet Now on NaijaBet

Aguero stoppage time goal helps City secure Bristol win

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero’s last-gasp header secured a 2-1 victory over Bristol City in their League Cup semifinal first leg on Tuesday after the second-tier side had frustrated the Premier League leaders.

City, who have dished out a string of maulings in a stellar league campaign, found the Championship side a tough nut to crack and had to wait until the 92nd minute to grab the winner when Argentine substitute Aguero darted in to head home.

The visitors had opened the scoring with a penalty just before halftime after central defender John Stones had fouled Bobby Reid, who dispatched the spot kick with aplomb. Today’s latest odds on an NaijaBet

Kevin De Bruyne’s equaliser soon after the break turned the tide and City then laid siege to their opponents’ defence in the closing stages before Aguero’s goal gave them a vital advantage ahead of the return leg in two weeks’ time.

With Manchester City unbeaten domestically all season and streaking clear in the Premier League it was hard to imagine them facing much of a test at home to Lee Johnson’s side, who are 14 points off the pace in the second division. Carling Cup Match Preview : Manchester City vs Bristol City

Manchester City have scored 4+ goals in 38% of their home matches this season, which does not bode well for Bristol City.

Since eliminating Manchester United, Bristol City have only won one of the resulting five matches and have lost each of their last three.

Lee Johnson’s side have failed to score in their last two and have shipped eight goals in that time. They are not in great shape ahead of this daunting fixture. Latest odds on Naija and Bet

The aim for Bristol City will be to at least stay in the tie to have something to fight for in the second leg. Whether they can manage that, is another question.
