UCL Match Preview: Real Madrid vs Roma

Real Madrid and Roma were both held to draws at the weekend but Roma’s result was more of a shock as they were 2-0 up against Chievo.

Julen Lopetegui has made an unbeaten start to life as the manager and is expected to win his first Champions League game in charge of the reigning champions.

Roma, meanwhile, has struggled so far this season and throwing away a 2-0 lead would have impacted their confidence even more.

The Serie A side has only won one of their opening four competitive matches this season and lost 2-0 on their last visit to the Bernabeu.

BSC Young Boys– Young Boys have four injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s welcome of European giants Manchester United: Pedro Teixeira, Jordan Lotomba, Gregory Wuthrich, and Sandro Lauper.

Wuthrich, usually at center-back, missed out through injury and would be a big loss for Gerardo Seoane’s side.

Manchester United– Luke Shaw was not risked against Watford on Sunday but Jose Mourinho afterward confirmed he would start against Young Boys on Wednesday. Continue reading “UCL Match Preview: BSC Young Boys vs Manchester United”

UCL Match Preview: Manchester City vs Lyon

Pep Guardiola was unhappy with Manchester City’s finishing in their 3-0 win over Fulham. City are unbeaten this season but are still searching for their best form.

Lyon has stuttered their way through the start of the season. The French side has only won two of their opening five matches but has lost only one of their last six matches against English clubs.

After going 13 Champions League home matches unbeaten, City have lost their last two at the Etihad (vs Basel and Liverpool). Nevertheless, they should come through this potentially tricky contest with three points.

UCL Match Preview: Valencia vs Juventus

Valencia has made a poor start to the season, winless in their first four league matches. They have drawn three of those games but will need to step it up to get anything from this match.

Juventus haven’t clicked into gear and are still trying to find the best formation to maximise Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence in the team. The Old Lady have, however, made a 100 percent start to the season.

Juventus’ record away to Spanish sides is not good. They have only won five of a possible 27 matches but have a great chance to change that here. Valencia has lost five of their last eight matches in the Champions League proper. Place bet on today’s games on NaijaBet

Valencia- Geoffrey Kondogbia came off after 14 minutes of Valencia’s 0-0 draw with Real Betis on Saturday and is not expected to feature here as a result, with Ezequiel Garay and Francis Coquelin also injury concerns.

Michy Batshuayi has been limited to just four substitute appearances since joining Valencia on loan from Chelsea in the summer and may have to settle for another place on the bench here. Santi Mina and Kevin Gameiro are battling to partner Rodrigo in attack.

Paris Saint-Germain also has a 100 percent record this season but are yet to hit top gear under Thomas Tuchel.

This is the game of the round and should be thoroughly entertaining, between two sides that love to attack. Various betting options are available for today’s matches on NaijaBet

Atletico Madrid has also underperformed this season. The Spanish side has only kept one clean sheet in five games, which is not like them.

Monaco are without a win in eight European games but have won their last three matches against La Liga opposition.

Atletico, however, has lost only one of their 13 fixtures against Ligue 1 sides and are unbeaten in their last five such fixtures (W3, D2).

PSV have won seven games in a row and have scored 13 goals in their last two outings.

The Dutch giants, however, haven’t won away in the Champions League proper since November 2007, losing seven of their subsequent 10 matches.

UCL Match Preview: Inter Milan vs Tottenham

After a hefty level of investment, Inter has started the season slowly, earning just four of 12 available points. They’re yet to win at San Siro this campaign and have failed to win their last four home games.

Tottenham are stuttering after back-to-back league defeats following a run of three successive victories to kick off the season and are yet to wholly convince this term. The Premier League side has lost their only two meetings with Inter at San Siro, conceding four goals in each of those two games.

Neither team will want to lose here, so we could see a cagey affair that may end in a low scoring draw. Various Champions Leagues betting options are available on site

Ronaldo’s bicycle kick against Juve wins Uefa goal of season

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning overhead bicycle kick for Real Madrid against current club Juventus has been voted Uefa’s goal of the season.

The former Real Madrid striker beat competition from 11 nominees for the award in honour of his goal in last season’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg in Turin.

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Will never forget that moment, especially the reaction of the fans in the stadium,” the 33-year-old Portuguese superstar said. Naija and Bet

Real Madrid were already leading against the Italian champions thanks to Ronaldo’s opener after just two minutes when he acrobatically blasted in Dani Carvajal’s cross on 64 minutes.

Ronaldo said it was “the best goal” of his career and it helped Real to a 3-0 win on the night and moved them a step closer to an eventual quarterfinal victory over Juve. Real Madrid are in the driving seat in this Champions League semi-final, but as they showed in the last round, they can not take any lead for granted.

Bayern Munich are down but certainly not out. Juventus beat Madrid at the Bernabéu in the last round and Bayern have to believe they can do the same.

UCL Match Preview : Manchester City vs Liverpool

Are the wheels coming off Manchester City’s season at the worst possible moment? They have lost successive matches for the first time under Pep Guardiola and conceded three goals in each match. They need to score at least three goals here to have any chance of staying in Europe.

Liverpool have one foot in the semi finals of the Champions League after beating City 3-0 at home in the first leg. They will know that one goal should be enough to secure their passage into the last four of the Champions League for the first time since the 2007/08 campaign.

If City can perform to the same level as they did in the first half of the Manchester derby, and take their opportunities, then they have a chance of pulling off a remarkable comeback. However, Liverpool will more than fancy their chances of doing enough to get through if City’s second half performance against United was anything to go by.

Ronaldo looking better than ever at aged 33

Cristiano Ronaldo has already broken one record in this year’s Champions League but against Juventus in their quarterfinal return on Wednesday he can edge closer to beating a bigger milestone of his own.

Ronaldo’s bicycle kick in Real Madrid’s 3-0 first leg victory last week ensured he passed Ruud van Nistelrooy’s feat by scoring in 10 consecutive Champions League games.

But the Portugese also now stands just three goals short of his best ever tally in a single European campaign, an achievement that would suggest this Ronaldo, aged 33, may even be the finest version yet. Place bet on today’s Champions League matches on NaijaBet

His 14 goals so far have come over nine matches and featured doubles against Apoel, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

It means this is Ronaldo’s third most prolific Champions League showing to date already and, with Real almost certain to reach the semifinals, he is unlikely to finish here.

When he posted 16 goals in the 2015-16 tournament and his personal best of 17 in 2013-14, both times Real were crowned champions. Continue reading “Ronaldo looking better than ever at aged 33”

UCL Match Preview : Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool have only lost one of their 23 home matches this season and Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Manchester City 4-3 at Anfield in January.

Pep Guardiola has lost more games against teams managed by Klopp than any other manager in his career (6 defeats).

Liverpool have kept clean sheets in their last three home matches. If they can continue that record against City then they stand a great chance of going through. Bet Now on Naija and Bet

City, meanwhile, have kept clean sheets in three of their last four away games and have won those matches at an aggregate scoreline of 11-1.

However, defensive records could fly out of the window when these two come face-to-face on Wednesday.

UCL Match Preview : Barcelona vs Chelsea (Agg 1-1)

A defensive mistake in the first leg gave Barcelona a huge away goal that has swung the tie in their favour ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Chelsea. The Spanish side are unbeaten at home all season, which does not bode well for the Premier League side.

Chelsea are incredibly unbeaten in their last eight matches against Barcelona but are not in great form heading to the Camp Nou.

They have lost their last four away matches and have only won one of three matches since holding Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Lionel Messi’s 75th-minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge may have killed Chelsea’s chances here as the respective home and away form of both teams favours Barcelona going through to the next round and ending Chelsea’s positive run against them. Bet Now NaijaBet

Manchester United could only manage a 0-0 draw away to Sevilla in the first leg but will hope to use home advantage to progress to the next stage of the Champions League. Under Jose Mourinho, United have only lost two home matches and both were against Manchester City.

Sevilla enter this match off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Valencia on Saturday. Away from home, the Spanish side have only lost one of their last six matches and they have scored in every European match this season.

United are usually very strong at home and Mourinho’s side should do enough, buoyed by Saturday’s win over Liverpool, to make the quarter finals of the Champions League.
