PSG targeting Barcelona striker Neymer for next Season

Brazilian superstar Neymar could join Paris Saint Germain, if the French giants pay his huge 193 million euros ($220 million) get out clause, his agent said.

“Neymar has a contract with Barca until 2018, But the prospect of living in a city like Paris and to play for a club like PSG is also a dream for every player Wayne Ribeiro Added.

“That’s to say if PSG showed interest in Neymar we could talk about it.”

Laurent Blanc’s men wrapped up their fourth successive league title in record time in March, and face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

And with talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, courted by some of Europe’s top clubs, in possibly his last season in France, PSG have reportedly identified Neymar as their number one target before the new season starts in August.

Ribeiro added: “A contract can also be dissolved on condition of paying the release clause. It’s huge – 193 million euros.

“But I don’t think that would be an insurmountable problem for PSG.”

Claudio Ranieri says wining was a good reply to Premier League title pressure

Claudio Ranieri says team are enjoying a “magical season” and can handle the pressure of the title run-in.

“I am very calm,” said Ranieri. “We believe in what we are doing.”

He said “everybody” was waiting to see how Leicester  would react to Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, adding: “We gave a very good answer.”

Leicester need 12 points from their final six games to become champions.

Real Madrid are not giving up on La Laga title Race

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale believes his side can still win La Liga after coming from behind to inflict Barcelona’s first defeat in 40 games with a 2-1 victory in El Clasico.

Madrid still trail Barca by seven points with seven league games to play, but Bale also highlighted the importance of the victory to Madrid’s confidence ahead of their return to Champions League action against Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

“If we wanted to win the league this was a game we had to win,” said the Welshman.

“You never know, football does funny things to teams when you lose and you never know what could happen. All they need is a few bad results, we need a few good ones and we’re right back in it.

“The most important thing today was to get the win to build confidence for the rest of the season.

“There’s still the Champions League as well, which we’re really looking forward to.”

The win was a huge turnaround for Madrid in Zinedine Zidane’s first Clasico in charge after suffering a 4-0 thrashing at home to Barca earlier in the season.

Gerard Pique’s towering header early in the second half put Barca in front, but Karim Benzema quickly levelled as Madrid tore the hosts apart on the counter-attack after the break.

And despite going down to 10 men when captain Sergio Ramos was sent off seven minutes from time, Bale crossed for Cristiano Ronaldo to strike the winner moments later to spark belief Madrid can end a difficult season on a high.

Diego Costa ban extended and fined £20,000 for Improper conduct

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will serve an additional one-match ban and has been fined £20,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.

Costa, 27, has been punished for his reaction to his sending off against Everton in an FA Cup tie on 12 March.

The Spaniard clashed with Gareth Barry and motioned towards biting him, although the Everton midfielder later said no contact had been made.

Costa was originally handed a two-match ban, but will now miss three games.

He missed the 2-2 draw with West Ham on 19 March and is suspended for Saturday’s away game at bottom-placed Aston Villa.

Costa, who has also been warned as to his future conduct, will now be absent for Chelsea’s trip to Swansea on 9 April.

Super Eagles have failed to qualify for Africa Cup of Nations twice under Amaju Pinnick

Amaju Pinnick has ruled out the possibility of resigning from his role as Nigeria Football Federation president following the Super Eagles’ inability to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Samson Siasia’s men defeat to Egypt in Alexandria ensured they missed the football showpiece two times in a row having missed the 2015 edition staged in Equatorial Guinea.

And despite Nigerians calling for his resignation, though, Pinnick insists he will not quit his post because his administration has not fared badly.

“I was elected by the Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation for a four-year team and I don’t see why I should be asked to resign with over two years to serve,” said Pinnick.

“With all due respect, I don’t think we have done badly in these past one and half years that we have been in office and I have a four-year mandate which I intend to see through. When we came in we had a case running for nine months and this affected us.

“In between we won Fifa Under 17 World Cup, we won the Africa Women’s Championship and we also qualified for the women’ s Under17 and U20 World Cups coming up this year.

“I think we have achieved. Again we have very young Super Eagles players that should be the future of the game in the country”

Leicester can still lose Premier League title, Wenger refuses to give up

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refuses to throw in the towel in the title race and has vowed to keep hunting Leicester.

Leicester have opened up a five-point lead over Tottenham with seven games to in one of the most unpredictable Premier League campaigns of all time. Arsenal are 11 points off the Foxes, but have a game in hand.

Arsenal host Watford on Saturday, with Leicester welcoming Southampton to the King Power Stadium a day later.

And Wenger hopes to put pressure on a Leicester squad that has little collective experience of competing at the top of the table.

“Leicester at the moment are in a very strong position, but they can still lose it,” Wenger told a news conference.

“Our job is to perform until the last day of the season, so let’s perform. The target is to win our remaining [eight] games. Let’s be pragmatic. It starts on Saturday.

“Finishing on 79 points could be enough, but it depends on the results of Leicester. Nobody knows how they will respond in their last games.

“I don’t know how many teams are still in the title race. Everybody doubts Arsenal’s chances, so for the teams behind us it’s even more difficult.

“Seasons like this could be more of a norm because all English clubs have fantastic financial potential.”

Aston Villa suspend striker Gabriel Agbonlahor

Gabriel Agbonlahor will not play for Aston Villa while the Premier League club carries out an internal investigation into his conduct.

The forward was pictured appearing to hold a shisha pipe while on holiday in Dubai during the international break.

Agbonlahor, 29, will miss Saturday’s game against Chelsea at Villa Park.

Villa are bottom of the table and without a manager after Remi Garde left the club by mutual consent on Tuesday after 147 days in charge.

Forced labour at World Cup stadium Qatar 2022 : Amnesty International

Amnesty interviewed 231 migrants – 132 working at the stadium and 99 on green spaces in the surrounding Aspire sports complex.

It said staff of one labour supply company used the threat of penalties to exact work from some migrants such as withholding pay, handing workers over to the police or stopping them from leaving Qatar.

This amounted to forced labour under international law, Amnesty said.

The Qatari government said its Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs would investigate the contractors named in the report.

But Amnesty said every migrant it had interviewed had reported abuses of one kind or another, including being:

required to pay fees of up to $4,300 to recruiters in their home country to get a job in Qatar, deceived over the type of work and the pay on offer, which was sometimes half as much as they were promised and threatened for complaining about their conditions, Naija and Bet

Valencia sacked Gary Neville after less than four months in charge

Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville has been sacked by Valencia after less than four months in charge of the club.

The 41-year-old, who is part of the England coaching set-up, was given his first managerial job in December.

Valencia won three of their 16 league games under the former television pundit, and 10 of 28 games overall.

Neville said he wanted to stay but results had “not been to my standards” or those “required by this club” He added that he understood “we are in a results business”.

Neville’s younger brother Phil is also part of the Valencia coaching team and will be retained.

Neville first faced calls to quit after a 7-0 loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg in February.

His last match in charge was a 2-0 home defeat by Celta Vigo just before the international break.

He has spent the past six days with the England squad for friendly games with Germany and the Netherlands,

Newcastle fortunes can still turn around this season – Benitez

Only small changes are required to turn Newcastle United’s fortunes around this season, manager Rafa Benitez has said as his side sit second from bottom in the Premier League.

A run of just two wins in their last 14 league games cost manager Steve McClaren his job earlier this month and left the Magpies three points adrift of safety with eight games remaining.

“Why is the club where we are at the moment? From outside you will have plenty of reasons why, from inside? You can see that we have to change little things,

“But the positive thing for me is… it’s not difficult. You know two or three things will improve everything, and it is not difficult. I am sure that if we do this we will be fine.”

The Spaniard, who is still searching for his first win with the Magpies, will hope Newcastle can end their five-game winless run when they travel to take on relegation-threatened Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Barcelona v Real Madrid: El Clasico is back Again

Barcelona entertain arch-rivals Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Saturday in a Clasico that could well have major ramifications in the race for the Liga title.

Third-placed Madrid head to Catalunya knowing that defeat will see them slip 13 points adrift of defending champions Barca, a difference that could prove too difficult to close in the seven subsequent fixtures.

Barca have never won a league game against Real Madrid when top of the competition and holding an advantage of 10 points or more (D1 L2).

Barca have lost just one of their last seven league games at home against Madrid, winning five. Their only defeat in that run was a 2-1 loss in April 2012.

In 171 matches between the two sides, the average of goals scored per game is just higher than three, though the most common result is 2-1 to Real Madrid, which has occurred 18 times previously.

The last four red cards in matches in all competitions between the two teams were all shown to Madrid players,

Super Eagles miss out for the second successive Afcon

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have failed again to qualify for the 2017 Afcon after suffering a defeat to Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday.

It is the first time Nigeria will miss the competition back to back in 18 years. The Super Eagles missed the Afcon editions of 1996 and 1998 owing to suspension from Caf after the country’s government forced its FA to withdraw from the tournament in 1996 which they were to defend as champions in South Africa.

Ramadan Sobhy’s effort in the second half took a slight deflection past Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi to seal the full points for the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Eagles head coach Samson Siasia was forced to make a goalkeeping change after Carl Ikeme was ruled out owing to illness. Akpeyi took his place.

Aminu Umar and Victor Moses also started with Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon dropping to the bench. Naija and Bet

Pep legacy will be remember at Bayern – Alonso

German champions Bayern Munich will continue to reap the benefits of manager Pep Guardiola’s coaching even after the Spaniard leaves the club at the end of the season, midfielder Xabi Alonso has said.

Guardiola, who has won numerous trophies with Barcelona and then Bayern, will take over as head coach of English Premier League side Manchester City from July.

The Spaniard, who will be replaced at Bayern by Italian Carlo Ancelotti, looks set to lift his third successive Bundesliga in his final season and Alonso has hailed the manager’s influence.

“Pep is ahead of his time. He is very demanding of himself and his players, but once you get to know it (the style), then it is the way we like to play,” Alonso.

“During his time here he has built something, a style of play, I think many players will have learnt a lot and improved and for sure those fundamentals will be very useful in the future as well.”

Bayern hold a five-point lead over Borussia Dortmund with seven games remaining and host second-bottom Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Fifa President support Argentina-Uruguay World Cup joint bid for 2030

Fifa President Gianni Infantino gave tentative backing to a joint World Cup bid by Argentina and Uruguay on Monday, suggesting the history of the two South American nations made them serious candidates to host the tournament in 2030.

Infantino, elected to run soccer’s world governing body in February, was speaking during a visit to the South American Football Confederation’s (CONMEBOL) headquarters in Paraguay.

Fifa held one joint World Cup in Japan and South Korea in 2002 but has since come out against future joint bids.

However, Infantino told CONMEBOL officials that he was not against co-hosting the tournament.

“An important theme is whether the World Cup can be played in more than one country,” said Infantino. “Fifa has been very much against a joint organisation. I personally support it.

“2030 is a very important year and history must be respected.”

Uruguay were awarded the first World Cup in 1930 and beat Argentina 4-2 in the final. They also won the World Cup in 1950, upsetting hosts Brazil in the deciding match.

Egypt vs Nigeria Match Preveiw

The Super Eagles  go into Today’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier with Egypt knowing only a win will reinvigorate their chances of making the finals.

Nigeria we held to a 1-1 draw by Egypt last Friday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, a set back of sorts considering the Pharaohs were two points ahead and the Eagles needed the three points to leapfrog Egypt into first place.

Another twist popped up when 48 hours after Nigeria’s draw, Chad announced her withdrawal from the qualifying series.

That was a huge setback for Nigeria because with three games left, more points were up for grabs but as it is, the Eagles must win in Alexandria or worse case scenario avoid defeat and hope the Egyptians falter in the last Group G game

Consequent of Chad’s withdrawal, all games and goals scored from matches involving them have been cancelled which means Nigeria are still on two points from two games.

Egypt still lead the pack with four points from two matches and a win against Nigeria on Tuesday will see the seven time champions make a return to Africa’s number one football show piece.

Consequent of Chad’s withdrawal from the qualifiers, all points and goals scored against then are null and void.

Jurgen Klopp’s 5 big successes at Anfield

Since Klopp took the reins at Liverpool in October, his Premier League record reads: played 21, won nine, drawn five, lost seven. Goals scored in that time are a healthy 37, goals conceded a concerning 30.

At an average of 1.52 points a game, it is way off title form, with both Leicester and Spurs chalking up better than two points a game in that time.

The good times for Klopp have included a comeback win at Stamford Bridge, winning home and away versus Manchester City in the league, scoring six at Southampton and Aston Villa, five at Norwich and, of course, dumping Manchester United out of Europe.

The Europa League dream is still alive and an outside chance of top four remains, what has Klopp got right at Liverpool? Here are five factors keeping the feel-good flying:

1. The work-rate – If there’s one thing that hasn’t been lacking from Liverpool’s performances since Klopp took charge, it is hard work. From the off at White Hart Lane in his first game in charge versus Tottenham the drive to win the ball back as soon as it was lost was clearly evident.

Adam Lallana was a case in point that day. The England man almost collapsed into his manager’s arms with exhaustion when he left the pitch such was the effect of his exertions. We’re now watching a fitter set of players more prepared to roll their sleeves up for success.

And with a pre-season conditioning campaign to come, there is hope this will be even more evident come August. Hard work allied to quality will be tough to beat.

I’m always committed to give my best as long as I am at the club,” Wenger

Arsene Wenger has “no doubt” he will still be the manager of Arsenal next season despite pressure from the club’s supporters to end his 20-year stay with the north London side.

A run of just two wins from their last nine games in all competitions has seen the Gunners knocked out of the Champions League last-16 for a sixth successive season and exit the FA Cup in the quarterfinal, losing to Watford at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s dismal form has severely dented their hopes of ending their 12-year wait for the Premier League title, as they trail leaders Leicester City by 11 points with a game in hand.

“I have no doubt because I am committed. When I do something, I do it 100 per cent. I’m always committed to give my best as long as I am at the club… That’s all I focus on,” Wenger told British media when asked if he would be Arsenal manager next season.

“What is the most important is that I give my best every day… I don’t worry too much about all the rest, what people say. My future is my future. I don’t master that more than you.”

Wenger, who has a year left on his contract, will hope his side can pick up back-to-back league victories for the first time since mid-February when they host Watford on Saturday,

Argentina come from behind to sink Chile

Lionel Messi’s return sparked Argentina to a 2-1 win over Chile in Santiago on Thursday, breathing new life into their South American qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup.

Messi, who had missed the first four games last year with a knee injury, laid on the 24th-minute winner for defender Gabriel Mercado after Angel Di Maria had cancelled out Felipe Gutierrez’s opener for Chile.

Argentina, beaten finalists at the last World Cup in Brazil, moved up to fourth in the 10-team group on eight points from five games. The top four qualify automatically for Russia with the fifth-ranked team going into an intercontinental playoff.

“We had to win in whatever way we could, I was glad to be back to help this group of players who fight for every point to the death” Messi said.

Chile, who had beaten Argentina in the Copa America final in Santiago last July, took the lead after 10 minutes when Gutierrez took advantage of poor defending at a corner to head past goalkeeper Sergio Romero. Naijabet

Nigeria v Egypt Match Preview

The Super Eagles trail group leaders the Pharaohs of Egypt by two points which make the game more important considering the Eagles cannot afford to drop more points.

The winners of the group pick the sole ticket for Gabon 2017 which adds more importance to the game.

Preparations for the game have not exactly been top-stacked considering Nigeria will be having a third coach and a third captain less than a year after the qualifiers started.

Nigeria and Egypt have had a long history between the two sides across all levels of football over the years.

The first time the two sides met at full international level was in January 1960 with Nigeria edging the Egyptians 2-1.

There has been 16 other matches since then with Nigeria winning six times, losing five and drawing five in a 56-year period.

Egypt, like Nigeria, missed the last edition and will try to make up for lost time.

Paul Pogba “highly likely” to stay with Juventus

Paul Pogba will reject big-money moves and stay with Juventus this summer, according to the club’s director general Giuseppe Marotta.

The French international, 23, is wanted by Manchester City as Pep Guardiola plots his Etihad revolution, while Paris Saint-Germain are also keen to take him back to his homeland.

The former Manchester United youngster has been linked with an £80million move away from Turin, having already won three successive scudetto titles since his free transfer arrival in 2012. Naija and Bet

But with the Old Lady seemingly on the verge of winning another Serie A title this term, club chief Marotta has suggested that Pogba will remain at the Juventus Arena for another season at least.

“Pogba is a Juventus player and still has an ongoing contract with us,” Marotta said.

“Plus he has also told us about his intention to stay with us. All the conditions are there for him to continue with Juventus for the upcoming years.

“The Juventus jersey is something you honour right until the end. It is not a foregone conclusion yet that he will stay at Juventus, because nothing is ever guaranteed in football, but it is highly likely that he will stay put.”

Pogba’s contract runs until 2019.
